The Socialist History Journal explores and assesses the past of the socialist movement, both for historical understanding, and as a contribution to the movement's development and future.

Issue 15 -- Visions Of The Future On the eve of the millennium celebrations, Socialist History 15 will focus on the theme of utopianism's role in shaping the political projects of the left.

David Purdy considers experiments in utopian thought as tools for moral and intellectual inquiry, while Philip Coupland focuses on the forms of utopian language which were used on the British left during the 1930s specifically.

Science fiction is explored from a feminist perspective in a piece by Maureen Spellar and current attempts to explore the "alternate futures" are examined by Mike Tyledsley and Laurence Cox.

The theme of utopianism is picked up in the reviews section with pieces on Robert Owen, and on the garden city movement.

Also included are reviews on aspects of the twentieth century communist movement, including a biography of J.T.

Murphy and essays on the Communist International.
