See all formats and editions

To achieve the goals of improving space transport acceptance and affordability, new systems concepts and advanced technologies in the area of propulsion are necessary.

This book discusses the Synerjet Engine, a new and highly innovative engine approach that goes far beyond today's all-rocket propulsion to reach higher levels of performance and operability through the integration of constituent rocket and airbreathing propulsion elements.

Compiled by William J.D. Escher, one of the world's foremost experts in the field of space propulsion, this book contains 18 chapters, each featuring a significant technical paper or article plus commentary and background.

Selected papers range from 1963 to 1996 and help readers gain insight into the following topics: airbreathing and rocket synergisms cryogenic engineering aspects primary rocket and fan subsystem design takeoff and landing mode options multimode engines thermodynamics of hypersonic airbreathing propulsion.

This publication will help engineers, researchers, and transportation professionals to understand the evolution and future promise of this remarkable technology.
