Engineering Durability of Concrete Pavements in Cold Regions

See all formats and editions

The focus of this book is on the durability-oriented engineering of concrete pavements.

Specifically, it systematically reviews and analyzes multiple design, materials construction and environmental variables that influence the performance of concrete pavements in the cold regions of the world.

A combination of such parameters as seasonal exposure to wetting/drying and freeze/thaw cycles, the use of deicing chemicals, and the potential for a high level of internal saturation of concrete, especially in areas close to the expansion joints, dictates a need for a very specific approach to the design and maintenance of cold region concrete pavements. The objective of the book is to provide readers with durability-oriented information regarding the design, construction and maintenance of concrete pavements.

It will help the reader to develop a better understanding of the impact of concrete durability on the selection of materials, the structural design of pavements and the evaluation of expected service life.

The book is intended for graduate students of civil engineering and for practicing engineers working both for transportation agencies as well as for construction and consulting companies.
