Jo and Maz are best friends despite being so different: Jo is ambitious, driven and unsure about commitment whereas for the last 15 years Maz's life has centred on home and her demanding mother.

As their children, talented musician Matthew and the appallingly behaved Amber, grow up together and their partners, Dennis and Trevor, also become friends the fabric of the two families' lives becomes closely interwoven.
