A few days before the referendum for the new Spanish Constitution, Vicky goes into a new case, this time alone, for Gonzalo is on a trip.

This allows her to take the initiative, for, in the words of Inspector Gutierrez, "you inhibit yourself when your boyfriend is present." Besides her role as amateur detective, Vicky is the narrator of the story, an infrequent combination in mystery novels.
