Schleiermacher is regarded as a classical hermeneutist. Hermeneutics extended the arsenal of “philological” methodology to include “psychological” interpretation, which drew upon the author’s intention to question meaning and significance. The essays in this volume explore the multiple dimensions of Schleiermacher’s hermeneutics, based for the first time on the newly published critical edition.
