Standing beneath Mount Sinai in Egypt, the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine is the oldest and most important continuously inhabited Christian monastery in the world.

This text portrays the treasures that have survived from the Byzantine past, with detailed commentaries accompanied by photographs.

It covers the library where there is a collection of codices and scrolls dating back to the 4th century AD, and the icon collection comprising of 6th and 7th century icons which have survived the scourge of iconoclasm.
