Situated Literacies explores how detailed studies of particular contexts can reveal insights about literacy in general and how it is changing.

A rich and varied collection of key writings are drawn together to explore and expand our understanding of literacy.

This is achieved through the application of empirical data to different areas of social theory such as: globalisation, media and visual design, social semiotics, bureaucracies and power relations, time, cultural identity, and scientific knowledge.
