Rails Through Tipperary is a scenic photographic odyssey through the ‘Golden Vale’ of County Tipperary covering the route from Limerick to Waterford along with the branches and section of the Dublin–Cork main line that intersects them. Drawing primarily from the photographic collection of Barry Carse, and a number of other contributors, the book illustrates these lines from 1960 onwards.

It depicts the changing network and declining services through the beautiful rural scenery of this area.  As well as following the route of the old Waterford, Limerick & Western Railway main line, this packed volume also follows the Nenagh branch from Limerick city to Ballybrophy along with the short Killaloe branch on the shores of Lough Derg. We also traverse a section of the main Dublin–Cork line from Ballybrophy, through Thurles to Limerick Junction and the erstwhile Cashel branch line connected to it.

The route from Thurles to Clonmel also features. The variety of locomotives, carriages and freight traffic of the period is all explored amongst the pleasant backdrop and timeless allure of this, Ireland’s ‘Premier County’.
