Using case studies, eye witness accounts, photographs and background information, this book on famine, which is part of a series, attempts to help children understand the scenes they see on television and encourage them to think from a new perspective.

The book considers case studies such as in Bangladesh (1995) famine was caused by flooding, yet in Ethiopia (1984) drought caused crops to fail.
