Bible - New Revised Standard Version : Cross-reference Edition with Apocrypha

See all formats and editions

A new edition of the NRSV Cross Reference Bible, now available with the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books The New Revised Standard Version of the Bible is steadily increasing in popularity.

It is highly respected among academics, including evangelicals, and popular in theological colleges, where it is preferred to the New International Version. Recent press reports indicate that the NIV is receiving adverse publicity because of its archaic approach to gender-inclusive language.

Some recent comments on the NIV: Steve Chalke: 'I don't want to be associated with a Bible that's a reaction against modern culture.' Elaine Storkey: 'It is frightening that some people in the States want a Bible that reinforces their prejudices rather than leading them into the light.' The NRSV sensitively avoids these issues without any loss of accuracy or clarity, and retains the traditional style of referring to God as 'He' or 'Him.' This edition has been completely reset as part of a joint project with the design and production team of Cambridge University Press, and features an attractive, stylish and readable page design. It is the first UK edition of the NRSV to incorporate both cross references and the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books, and will be an ideal edition for students and serious Bible readers.
