The Ching RoomAlan's first play, directed by Cheryl Martin, was first performed in 2009, commissioned by Traverse Theatre for their A Play, A Pie and A Pint season in collaboration with ran Mr. It's a pitch-black two-hander set in a toilet cubicle.

Rory realises he is out of his depth once he becomes trapped by the terrifying and enigmatic drug-dealer, Darren.

Cast Size: 2mThe original cast included Andy Clark, shortlisted for a CAT award for Best Actor in the role, and Colin McCredie (Taggart).

The Ching Room was revived at Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, in March 2010, in a double bill with The Moira Monologues, with Simon Donaldson as Rory and Martin McCormick as Darren.

The double bill played at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester in October 2010, with McCormick as Darren and McCredie returning to the role of Rory. Set in the sort of bar you wouldn't take tourists to, in an unspecified Balkan country, Turbo Folk's "e;dazzling linguistic games"e; (The Scotsman) earned Alan a nomination for Best New Play at the 2010 Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS). This play was first performed at ran Mr, Glasgow, in April 2010, starring Steven McNicoll, Simon Donaldson and Ryan Fletcher.

It was directed by Sacha Kyle.
