Longman Reading World - Level 7 Skills Development Spiritmasters

"Longman Reading World" is a resource for reading and language in the primary school.

These spiritmasters provide information for five areas of skill development: word users; word watchers; star spellers; super writers; and fact finders.

Word users - these are concerned with word usage and language knowledge.

Word watchers - learning about sound-symbol system of language and word structure.

The "phonic" strand of "Longman Reading World" is largely to be found here.

Star spellers - treating spelling as a visual motor skill.

The Look, Cover, Write, Check technique is used throughout "Longman Reading World".

Star Speller sheets also provide further material for the study of word structures.

Super writers - provide children with a range of writing activities and advice, guidance and focus for discussion on many aspects of writing.

Fact finders - mini topic form - to develop the skills and techniques of reading for information in a genuine and meaningful context.

There are 48 spiritmasters at each level for use on a spirit duplicating machine or photocopier and there are three record sheets for monitoring progress also with each set of spiritmasters.
