The release of Pearl Jam's "Ten" and Nirvana's album "Nevermind" in the early 1990s catapulted grunge music into mainstream culture. Sometimes referred to as the "Seattle sound" because of the large number of groups from that area, grunge music used influences from hardcore punk and indie music to carve a coveted spot in alternative music.

This book looks at the musical influences on grunge music, the Seattle groups and the other groups who popularized the sound of grunge music.
