For beginners, JavaScript (a programming language for use on web pages) is much easier and more rewarding to learn than Java.

With JavaScript you can write code directly into a web page and do not have to buy or download special software.

You can use single JavaScript commands to do animation effects, or little bits of code to handle calculations, feedback to visitors; and later you can use JavaScript to create quite complex structures.
