Changing Places : Cross-curricular Approaches to teaching languages

Part of the Pathfinder: support materials for language teachers series
See all formats and editions

This text containing a range of topic materials for use by MFL teachers is a companion volume to Pathfinder 27: "New Contexts for Modern Language Learning" in which the authors showed how to broaden the content of the teaching programme beyond the merely transactional.

This pack encourages a broader approach to language learning.

The authors encourage language teachers to: try out the ideas and resources in the pack; build up their own resources on global issues; talk to colleagues in other curriculum areas about resources, aims, strategies and issues; and explore cross-curricular approaches with pupils in languages other than French.

The activities in the pack are divided into four groups: questions around a photograph - those using photographs or visuals as a stimulus for language work; timeline activities - those involving pupils in physical timelines, sorting and sequencing activities; co-operative group work tasks - those offering pupils opportunities to interact in group work in the target language, spontaneously and independently; and extended reading resources and a range of written tasks linked to their reading. The materials presented in the resources pack are photocopiable.
