New to English (Newcomer)

"New to English" is an entry-level newcomer reading and writing program that builds foundations for reading fluency and prepares students for the research-based "On Location" program.

Supports the direct teaching of "phonemic awareness."Acknowledges that learning to read and write is developmental - students must first learn to hear and produce the sounds of English before they can read and write.Recognizes that beginning readers develop fluency in predictable stages as they learn how an alphabetic language like English works.
