Egypt in Africa (New ed)

How "African" was ancient Egyptian civilization? By juxtaposing visual evidence of common cultural features found in ancient Egypt and among African people across the continent, such as maternity images, headrests, masks, animal deities and symbols, body art, ancestor worship, depiction of the human form, circumcision, and male initiation, "Egypt in Africa" explores the highly controversial question of the African nature of ancient Egypt. Original contributions by 28 authors representing the perspectives of archaeology, art history, physical anthropology, African studies, Egyptology, Afrocentric studies, and classical studies present diverse and sometimes opposing viewpoints on aspects of this hotly contested topic.
