The goal of this book is to help English-learning parents become effective advocates for their children.

The content has been arranged around tasks that will help parents not only to interact with school staff and teachers but also to engage in their children's education.

Each chapter includes intermediate-to-advanced listening, speaking, reading and writing lessons within the context of an American elementary school, covering a wide range of topics including: school policies, supporting reading and math skills, teacher conferences, Common Core, and standardized testing.

Grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation items relevant to school-related tasks also appear in each chapter.When possible, real-life texts have been included, and links to websites relevant to the K-12 educational system can be found throughout the book. The audio tracks can be easily accessed by scanning the QR codes in each unit.

The authors hope this book will help empower English-learning parents to develop their communication skills so that they can become active members of their school communities and confidently claim their agency in supporting their children's education.
