Qualitative reasoning and quantitative analysis are discussed equally in order to provide a meaningful conceptual framework within which the quantitative work makes more sense.

Atomic-level analysis is stressed and electrostatics and circuits are unified.

Desktop experiments can be conducted at home or in the classroom and are tightly integrated with the theoretical treatment.
