The Treasure was discovered in July 1958 during excavations in the nave of the medieval church on St Ninian's Isle, Shetland.

It is a hoard of 28 silver objects including bowls and brooches - most are considered to be Pictish dating from about 800 AD.

This is the largest surviving group of such metalwork.

They are thought to be treasured items from the household of a local Pictish lord, and included objects apparently for secular and sacred use.

This booklet has been produced by National Museums Scotland, working with the Shetland Amenities Trust, to mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the discovery.

It provides a brief overview of the investigation into these objects together with colour pictures of all the objects.
