Warbirds Alive : The World's Top 25 Flyable Historic Military Aircraft

See all formats and editions

This book takes a detailed look at the 25 preserved and flying warbirds which are perceived as being the most popular amongst the legion of enthusiasts for these aircraft around the world.

For each of the 25 airframes which feature in the book, a condensed history is given covering both its military and civilian career.

There is addition statistical information on the type itself including how many have survived and how many are in flyable condition.

There is extensive photographic coverage, in colour, of each of the aircraft.

This includes internal and external views and photos taken during the restoration process.

In many cases air to air images are included. The book has interviews with the restorers based on a set of questions put to each so that readers can judge for themselves how complex each restoration was and make comparisons between the various projects.

This will include details of how the airframe and engines were restored and how difficult it was to undertake particular facets of the restoration process. Each project throws up its own difficulties ranging from difficulties in obtaining parts, to the sometimes complex and confusing research into paint schemes and appropriate insignia.

However, the technical aspects of the restoration are recounted here, in terms which will be accessible and comprehensible to the layman.

The book also provides information on where the aircraft is now located and when it can be viewed.
