Written to enable schools to respond to the recommendations of the Stephen Lawrence inquiry, this book is arranged to help and examine their practice.

It explains terminology and the legal obligations of schools and approaches for tackling racism.

Each section provides introductory notes, practical classroom activities and assignments, staff training activities and good practice checklists.

Part 1 is designed for use in staff and institutional development and Part 2 suggests activities for exploring racism in the classroom, and outlines four teaching units.

There is also an up-to-date list of supportive publications and organizations and guidance on how to use the "toolkit" to best effect.
