Northeast Asia is a region of enormous economic and strategic significance internationally, yet its regionalism remains comparatively underdeveloped.

This book examines the reasons for this, and looks at recent development in Northeast Asia's economic, political and security-related regional frameworks.

Particular reference is made to Europe's contemporary experience of regionalism, and what lessons - both positive and negative- the Northeast Asian community can draw from it.

The main themes covered include security, international relations, international political economy and politics, with secondary themes comprising history, sociology and transnational relations.

More generally, this book combines strong theoretical and conceptual fundamentals with their application to policy prescriptions and evaluation.

It also discusses Northeast Asian regionalism in the wider context of globalisation and with reference to the critical junctures facing Northeast Asian society at the start of the twenty-first century.

This book provides a multifaceted study on Northeast Asian regionalism, drawing particularly on lessons from Europe's own recent experiences. It considers the historic context and recent developments in Northeast Asian intra-regional relations, as well as the opportunities for, and constraints upon, future regionalist initiatives in Northeast Asia.
