Conflict and Stability in Scottish Society, 1700-1850

Between the early 18th and the mid-19th century Scottish society was tranformed by industrialisation, urbanisation and changes in agriculture and rural society.

This work challenges the view that this upheaval did not stimulate much unrest and that a modern society developed smoothly.
