Prelude to the Easter Rising : Sir Roger Casement in Imperial Germany

This book consists of an historical introduction and a body of documents.

It looks primarily at Casement's role as the emissary of Irish-America seeking to provoke a military invasion of Ireland in support of the nationalist cause and to organize an Irish brigade out of Irish prisoners of war held in Germany.

It has a multi-dimensional appeal, involving as it does military history, the history of espionage and intelligence and the history of World War One.

Many of the documents included are here translated into English for the first time.
