The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are a set of internationally agreed targets to improve the well-being of the poor in developing countries by 2015.

Many countries in the Asia-Pacific region are not on track to achieve these goals and the book argues that many countries need to tailor the MDGs in order to be realistic and to maintain public and international support.

Further, while responsibility for the achievement of the MDGs rests largely with the governments of developing countries, the international community has an important role to play.

This book examines the role of government aid donors and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

It argues that a country-specific approach to the MDGs is required and this is demonstrated by examining the role of the international community in assisting with the MDGs in four individual country case studies.
