This volume reviews the biological importance of a2-macroglobulin (a2M) and the a2-macroglobulin receptor/low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP).

The mechanisms of the a2M-proteinase reaction and the function of a2M as a carrier of growth factors, cytokines and toxins are discussed.

Emphasis is placed in the structure and function of LRP and its relation to cancer and atherogenesis.
