WebOnt is the W3C's Semantic Web Activity Working group on Web Ontology Language.

The result of this group's effort has been in producing OWL - the Web Ontology Language.OWL took DAML+OIL as a starting language (which itself is built on top of RDF and XML) and provided extensions that are compatible with description logics.OWL is the emerging expressive web ontology language.The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or W3).Founded and headed by Tim Berners-Lee, the consortium is made up of member organizations which maintain full-time staff for the purpose of working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web.

As of 10 July 2011, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has 317 members.
