Condensed matter physics is a branch of physics which focuses on both macroscopic and microscopic properties of matter.

Primarily, it deals with the condensed phases which occur when there are a large number of constituents in a system and the interaction between them is strong.

Solids and liquids are the most common examples of condensed phases which arise from the forces present between atoms, such forces are known as electromagnetic forces.

Physical laws are used in order to understand the behavior of these phases.

Some other condensed phases are superconducting phase that is manifested by certain materials at low temperature, the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases of spins on the crystal lattices of atoms, etc.

It can be further divided into theoretical and experimental condensed matter physics.

Theoretical condensed matter physics uses theoretical models such as density functional theory, Drude model, etc. to study the properties of the states of matter. Experimental condensed matter physics uses experimental probes such as thermometry, spectroscopy with infrared light, etc. to discover new properties of diverse materials.
