This Offshore Conference was presented as two consecutive one day conferences.

The proceedings from day two address the technical developments which improve the safety performance of offshore structures both in the field and at the design stage.

After a keynote address on developments since Piper Alpha, the papers under "Explosion Prediction" looked at: explosion risk assessment - experimental evidence, the effect of ignition point location on maximum overpressure, and gas explosion generated drag loads in offshore installations. "FPSO Case Studies" included: natural ventilation under the process desk of floating platform storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Anasuria, fire and blast engineering for an FPSO, and fire protection of a topsides using computational methods. "Prevention and Mitigation" reviewed: optimizing safety through inherent offshore platform design, and new aspects of the effect of water spray on gas explosions in offshore rigs.
