Classification, Origin, Diffusion and History of the Olive

The olive is one of the oldest type of fruit trees in the Mediterranean area and was one of the first species to be cultivated.

However, despite its long history, there are still many aspects of its development that have not been sufficiently explored, and these include the distribution of the species and its taxonomy.

This publication reviews its origin and classification, in order to provide a foundation for further research about this plant.
