Lost Manuscript: A Novel

First published in the original German in 1864. In this work Freytag endeavoured to do for German university life what his earlier novel "e;Soll und Haben"e; had done for commercial life.

The hero is a young German professor, who is so wrapped up in his search for a manuscript by Tacitus that he is oblivious to an impending tragedy in his domestic life.
