The Birds of Africa - Volumes I to VIII

See all formats and editions

The publication of The Birds of Africa series was a landmark publishing event.

Seven volumes were published between 1982 and 2003, and the eighth volume covering the Malagasy region is to be published in 2013 to complete the series.

The first seven volumes, under the series editorship of Hilary Fry, Stuart Keith and Emil Urban, covered more than 2100 species in unprecedented detail, and included 232 magnificent colour plates (almost all of them by Martin Woodcock).

Volume 8, edited by Roger Safford and Frank Hawkins, covers all the birds of Madagascar and the various islands and archipelagos of the Indian Ocean including Seychelles, Cormoros, Mauritius and Reunion.

It includes 64 colour plates by John Gale and Brian Small.

Several of the earlier volumes have been out of print, and for the first time the whole series is being made available to buy as a set.
