Financing temporary accommodation in the private rented sector : an economic analysis

The Department of the Environment commissioned the Institute for Fiscal Studies to undertake a comparative study of the types of temporary accommodation schemes used by local housing authorities, in particular looking at the costs to the private sector in setting up and running schemes.

The aim was to increase understanding of the factors which must be taken into account when setting up such schemes and to allow housing authorities to assess the effectiveness of their own schemes.

This publication gives the key message that there was no single scheme which best represents value for money.
