Mara Lionza y Juan Jos: Sortilegio de Amor, is a collection of interlinked love stories which mix fantasy and history. Rosaura, a middle-age Venezuelan, takes a trip to her home country in search for an old friend and to photograph the statue of the mythical Mara Lionza, Queen of mountains, rivers and lakes. As she travels to the goddesss sanctuary, Rosaura collects narratives which reveal not only the centuries-old clash between conquistadors, slaves, and natives, but also modern class and ethnic struggles.
