The annual human rights report is designed to present detailed information on the FCOs work, over the period July 2000 to July 2001, to promote human rights overseas.

It incorporates comments and recommendations received from the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee and a number of human rights NGOs.

The report provides an overview of the main challenges to human rights around the world, and explains the governments policies and activities to address those challenges, in both multilateral and bilateral contexts.

Specific examples are used to illustrate each theme.

Individual sections cover human rights and: multilateral actions; conflict; economy and society; justice; democracy and diversity; and rights of the child.
