The Reading Recovery scheme, devised by Professor Dame Marie Clay for use in New Zealand, has excited widespread interest both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

It is currently being piloted in the UK with government funding under the GEST scheme.

In the context of national expressions of concern about reading standards in England, two HMI were asked to spend two weeks visiting New Zealand in 1992 to observe and report on Reading Recovery in action.
