Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill : report, 5th report of session 2006-07

The Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill would exempt both Houses of Parliament from the Freedom of Information regime.

This report looks at the constitutional aspects of the proposed change.

Careful consideration was given to the inclusion of both Houses during the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill in 2000 and the Committee is unaware of any compelling case to change the decision made at that time.

The Committee do not believe that the Bill meets the requirements of caution and proportionality in enacting legislation of constitutional importance.
