A Puppy

This book introduces the letters 'p, u, e, y,' but only 'p' and 'u' are used phonically.

The important teaching point in this book is the word 'the', which has to be taught and learnt as a 'sight' word. The word 'puppy' may seem difficult for children, but they do say 'puppy' as opposed to 'pup'.

Whilst book 4B has only C-V-C words, children do usually find this book, 4A, easier to read as the word/picture associations are clear.

They can then move on to book 4B to practise the phoneme/grapheme correspondences of 'p' and 'u' in C-V-C words.
