In the year 1851, Johnathan Frederick Younger, a young man down on his luck after losing his job at the Philadelphia Inquirer, finding himself at a crossroads. Struggling to make ends meet, and questioning his future, he receives a telegram from his brother informing him of his marriage and birth of child. Johnathan's brother sends funds for a trip to make his way out to California, the site of a gold rush, and to write the story of his adventure for his employer the Philadelphia Inquirer, unaware Johnathan was no longer with the publication.
After consideration, Johnathan gains the courage to set out on his way west. Happening upon a group at a local establishment, willing to take him west. He begins his journey, unaware of the group's true intentions, and finds himself starting a far more difficult path ahead. The journey west will be long, difficult, and far more dangerous than he could imagine. Johnathan Younger must quickly grow, learn from mistakes, and become strong if he wishes to see an end to his journey.
