The Best of Thomas Hardy

Thomas Hardy was a realist novelist and poet who strove to highlight the pitfalls of Victorian society, with especial regard to the decline of the rural community. Most of his novels were set in the semi-fictional region of Wessex where his, often tragic, characters struggled against their social and personal circumstances. The most celebrated of these novels are: Far from the Madding Crowd; The Mayor of Casterbridge; Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure.
