Sand

In Science Explorers, children find out about the properties and uses of everyday materials.

The series takes an active approach to finding out about materials.

Children are encouraged to ask questions about what different materials are like, formulate ideas about how a material might behave (when water is dropped on to it, for instance), and test out these ideas.

Where does sand come from? What happens when you mix it with water? Can plants grow in sand? This book also looks at hourglasses, sandpaper, cement and mortar and includes making a sandpicture and writing in sand.
