See all formats and editions

This guidance, which supersedes the previous version of the same title, is intended to give everyone in the petroleum industry, both offshore and onshore, a basic understanding of what it is meant by a permit to work.

For the offshore industry it applies to all installations and activites covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (Application outside Great Britain) Order 1995, including pipelay barges and energy sectors.

It explains permit-to-work systems, why and when they are needed and who authorizes them, and outlines how the main types of permits are used in the industry.
