Zuri is a young, black girl with natural leading abilities. Like most girls in her position, she finds herself meeting a lot of resistance. Due to this outside influence, she finds herself doubting her every move. However, her teacher recognizes her potential for greatness and assigns her to direct a play.

In an attempt to avoid gendered stereotypes that have clouded her mind and judgment, she forces herself into a box that doesn't fit every circumstance. This allows a few castmates to take advantage of her kindness, but she finds a win with others in this approach.

In a battle to find faith in her own leading style, things go a bit off the rails, especially with the lead of the play, Ava, who steps on her toes the most. Zuri battles to keep Ava from taking over but may have gone too far in the other direction. Can she fix her mistakes before she loses her position as director and falls to her own doubts about her ability to lead?
