Measurement and monitoring of air quality, be it indoor, urban or non-urban, is an integral component of any environmental management process designed to mitigate the environmental and health impact of poor air quality.

A modern, interdisciplinary approach to examining and monitoring air quality and its effects on health is presented.

The important features in the development of our current knowledge and understanding of all the major aspects of air quality are presented, using contributions from scientists and engineers, and including, where relevant, information on current regulatory frameworks in the UK, Europe and other parts of the world.
