At the heart of the Sounds and Letters programme is the Alphabetic Code Chart, which shows the difference between the 'alphabet' (the letters) and the 'alphabetic code' (the alternative spellings for all the phonemes).

It should be displayed to help children to remember how to 'crack the code' and reinforce incidental phonics teaching.
