Contaminated land and its reclamation is an issue which has been the focus of much attention since the mid-1980s in the UK, in continental Europe, in the USA, and more widely throughout the world.

There have been many incidents reported in the media which have served to raise the level of public concern about the effects and conseequences of land contamination and governments have moved to introduce legislation designed to control and regulate activities which lead to contamination and to deal with the historical legacy of contaminated sites.This volume provides an overview of the subjects, including recent developments of a legal, technical and professional nature and relates these to the methods of risk assessment and their application.
