See all formats and editions

Leeds RLFC entered the 1960s as unarguably one of the strongest clubs in the game whilst carrying the unwanted mantle of underachievers. But in the 1961/62 season they carried off the championship under the guidance of Dai Prosser and Joe Warham and formed the nucleus of a side that would stand the test of time. The next 20 years became the most prominent in the club's history; the team became on of the most successful rugby league sides ever as Leeds carried off trophy after trophy. Indeed, from the 1966/7 season, Leeds RLFC won at least one major trophy every season for the next 14 years. This is the story of that momentous team. Featuring profiles and interviews with many of the greatest, including John Atkinson, Bev Risman, Syd Hynes, Alan Smith, Steve Pitchford, Bill Ramsay and more, "Headingley Heroes" tells the story of Leeds' rise to prominence and successes through the 1960s and 1970s. Written by rugby league journalist Phil Hodgson with a foreword by the great Alan Smith and supported by 200 photographs and details of the greatest matches this is one book a true Leeds RLFC fan must have.
