Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme which provides stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading throughout the primary years.Key features include: a coherent yet flexible structure for teaching and learning; a variety of attractive picture books; a balance of text types and genres, including stories, poems and information books; an integrated phonics programme;comprehensive support materials. The Beginning to Read stage includes three Undoing a Picture books, Hunting in the Marshes, Entering the Ark and January.

These teach children to use illustration in conjunction with text.

Each is concerned with a specific work of art, and focuses on close-ups of animals and people from it, with the complete picture reproduced at the end.

The technique shows children how to look at paintings by concentrating on details as part of a whole.
